Women, Science, and Title IX

Allison Kasic

Jay Schalin offers some interesting thoughts on a topic that seems to be dominating higher education discussions lately: why are there fewer women in the sciences than men?  Schalin offers his explanation here (see IWF's analysis here and here).  It is critical to get at the heart of that question before taking any rash actions.  The push to "Title IX" the sciences (see example here) skips that question, or, more accurately, assumes it is chalked up to discrimination and not a myriad of other factors that are likely at play.  If Title IX advocates can't accurately depict the problem, why should we trust them to design the solution?
