Alleged Feminist at MSNBC Takes Aim at . . . Ivanka Trump's G-20 Dress

by Charlotte Hays

Add MSNBC's alleged feminist Joan Walsh to the list of media figures induced to make dumb remarks by a bad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

With a twist--Ms. Walsh is going after the daughter . . . and not just the daughter but the daughter's pink dress.

In a decline of movement feminism moment, Joan Walsh furrowed her brow and took aim at what was really important about Ivanka Trump's briefly sitting in for her father at the G-20 meeting:

Joan Walsh slammed Ivanka Trump’s dress choice when she briefly sat in for President Trump at the G-20 summit in Germany, suggesting that the “incredibly ornamental” pink dress signaled the unserious role women will play in the Trump administration.

Ms. Trump, an unpaid adviser to her father, caused backlash this weekend after she took a seat on his behalf during a working session Saturday morning in Hamburg. Mr. Trump said he had asked his daughter to hold the seat while he attended meetings, calling the practice “very standard.”

Ms. Walsh, however, took issue with Ms. Trump wearing a “girlie” dress during the controversial moment, which was a pale pink with large bows on the sleeves.

“I don’t mean to sound sexist, it can be dangerous to comment on what women wear, but the fact that she sat in for her father in a dress that was so incredibly ornamental was such a contradiction in terms,” Ms. Walsh told MSNBC host Thomas Roberts on Sunday, in remarks first flagged by Newsbusters.

“And I think that what we see is that in patriarchal, authoritarian societies, daughters have great value — they are property,” she said. “And the message that she is sending about her own value, about her place in the White House, and about the place of women in this administration, I think, are really, pretty frightening.”

Far from being "property," Ivanka Trump has a serious job in the Trump White House. She is doing more for women than can be accomplished by sharing opinions on television (while sporting a sleeveless, scoop necked navy frock with a silver necklace and a good haircut).

While we may have a slightly different take when it gets to nuts and bolts of policy, from Ms. Trump on some of the issues, we recognize her as a powerful champion for women entrepreneurs and working women with families.

If she can do this looking fabulous in a gorgeous pink dress, more power to her.
