Jon Caldara was a columnist for the Denver Post. No longer.
Was it something he said? Appears to be the case.
Caldara wrote a column challenging the idea that there are more than two sexes. The Denver columnist was taking on the Associated Press style guide, a newsroom bible, which urged journalists not to state or imply that there are only two sexes. Here is part of what Caldara wrote:
“It’s admirable that reporters want to be compassionate to transgender individuals and those transitioning, as we all should be. But AP reporters first have a duty to the truth, or so they say. There are only two sexes, identified by an XX or XY chromosome. That is the very definition of binary. The AP ruling it isn’t so doesn’t change science.”
Caldara was a columnist and not a full-time journalist. He is president of the libertarian Independence Institute. The Denver Post has a right to fire whomever it wishes. But, if Caldera is right that he was fired for this column, the list of PC topics on which differing opinions are not allowed just got longer.
