I'll Second That

From today's New York Post:

The only question we should be asking is: Can Sarah Palin do the job?

Questioning whether it is appropriate for a mother of five to run for office doesn't strike me as the best way to get at that answer.

More here.

Shouldn't we be asking about Sarah Palin's judgment as well? Is it wise for a woman in her forties to be having a child? Doesn't science teach us that the time for women to have children is when they are younger? Oh, by the way, is being the VP of the U.S. the same as being a business owner or even a governor? I think the demands will be much more and that Ms. Palin, and her husband, should be thinking about taking care of their child and putting their "careers" on hold.

Actually, no it doesn't. Plenty of women in their forties have children. Sure there is a greater risk of Down's Syndrome, but I am not sure why you think there is something wrong with that -- unless you think that children with Down's Syndrome are mistakes who have no value.

But I am glad to hear that you support contraception access and abortion access, at least for older women. (Otherwise, I don't see how you could condemn an older mother who becomes pregnant and has the child.)
