“How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love Plastic Water Bottles, Fracking, Genetically Modified Food & Big Gulp Sodas”

(WASHINGTON DC) -- This Friday as the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) enters the next phase of its Culture of Alarmism showcase project.  In cooperation with the American Conservative Union, IWF will host a panel discussion at the 2013 edition of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), titled “How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love Plastic Water Bottles, Fracking, Genetically Modified Food & Big Gulp Sodas.”  The event will take place in the Potomac Ballroom of the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor at 11:00am on Friday, March 15th.

Announcing this panel discussion, IWF Culture of Alarmism Project Director Julie Gunlock said, “We are thrilled to work with the ACU to host this exciting panel. Americans are bombarded each day with alarmist messages, hyped by the media about how everyday products threaten their health and safety.  Our organization has launched the Culture of Alarmism project to combat the dangerous myths that are being spread, to fight unnecessary regulations that hurt the free market and to educate women and conservative activists about how they can fight back.”

“How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love Plastic Water Bottles, Fracking, Genetically Modified Food & Big Gulp Sodas” will be moderated by IWF Executive Director Sabrina Schaeffer.  The panel will be comprised of the following individuals:

Julie GunlockDirector, Culture of Alarmism Project of the Independent Women’s Forum

Angela Logomasini Senior Fellow, Competitive Enterprise Institute

Jillian Kay Melchior Thomas L. Rhodes Fellow, Franklin Center for Government & Public Integrity

Jeff Stier Senior Fellow, National Center for Public Policy Research

In conjunction with this discussion event, IWF is launching a new website that highlights some of the most disturbing trends of the alarmist culture and the growing nanny state.  A must-click for conservative activists and media, www.CultureofAlarmism.org will go live this week.

Americans are bombarded with messages about how everyday products threaten their health and the health of their children. The media hypes the findings from scientifically-dubious studies; politicians and government regulators seize on them to promote regulations that expand their power and so that they can reassure the public they are doing something to protect Americans.  IWF is leading the fight against this Culture of Alarmism.  To learn more about this project, please go to www.CultureofAlarmism.org.
