Foreign desk: North Korea Just Gamed the Olympics

Claudia Rosett at PJ Media urges “a sober rethink of the applause we’re now hearing for North Korea’s last-minute enrollment in the Winter Olympic Games” being held next month in South Korea. And never mind that it followed the resumption of inter-Korean talks and the White House statement saying it provides “an opportunity for the regime to see the value of ending its international isolation by denuclearizing.” That’s just “wishful thinking translated into diplomatic nonsense.” All Kim Jong-Un has learned is that his “threats, gross abuses of human rights and illicit nuclear missile ventures are no serious bar to rejoining the ‘international community.’ ” So “doing backflips in response” to his last-minute overture “is not a step toward peace.”
