"About Our Children" Airs Today

IWF's program "ABOUT OUR CHILDREN", a live town hall featuring Bill Cosby and presented by Michelle D. Bernard will air on MSNBC Sunday September 20, 2009 from 7-9pm ET.

Live from Howard University's Ira Aldridge Theater and telecast on MSNBC, Cosby and several panelists will discuss poverty in America, focusing on the parenting, education and health issues facing the poor in the United States.

Panelists include:

Dr. Daniel Amen, founder of the Amen Clinics, Derrell Bradford, deputy director of Excellent Education for Everyone, Ben Austin, executive director of the Los Angeles based Parents Union, Dr. Ben Chavis, former principal of American Indian Public Charter School and author of the soon to be released book "Crazy Like a Fox: One Principal's Triumph in the Inner City," Dr. Alvin Poussaint, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Paul Rodriguez, actor and civic and education activist, and Dennis Van Roekel, president of the National Education Association.

"' About Our Children'" is about the future of all of America's children and their shot at truly achieving the American dream. This program will challenge us individually and collectively to talk openly and honestly about what ails our children and then act on what we already know can be done to help our great nation's children achieve their dreams.

I wanted to comment on the commentary. I saw teachers being blamed for failing schools... There are bad teachers out there however parents need to take responsibility for their misbehaving children. Not alot of teaching a teacher can do when she is constantly correcting disrespectful children. Parents need to make sure their kids value a good education and support the teachers that are trying to teach their kids. As an educator I AM ANGRY!!!!

We just finished watching your show "About our Children" It was so well done, and we wanted to congratulate you in all your efforts. As you know Bill's passion in life is education and spends about 90% of his time on this. He would very much enjoy talking with you. But Kudos!! Well Done!! Best, Sandy Brock

I thought this was an excellent program that I wish was nationally televised rather than on cable. I don't know if the show was able to be seen around the country ( since I consider myself technologically impaired due to age deficits). Just the number not the mentality. As a retired teacher, a parent and grandparent I hope that your audience was vast. Congratulations on a job well done.

The Mental Health Department of Central Texas College is very interested in obtaining a copy of this program on video or DVD to use as a learning tool for our Social Work and At Risk Youth Specialization degree students.

If someone could contact us with information to place an order we would greatly appreciate it.

I figured this was a "joke" to expect a response from a person that didn't agree with you guys... A kindengartner at my school told the building to "Suck my d---"..I wonder if it's the teachers fault that he is not learning.....
