On October 29, the Department of Justice hosted a symposium on domestic violence where the appointments to its Advisory Committee for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) were formally announced.

IWF President Nancy M. Pfotenhauer and IWF National Advisory Board Member Margot Hill have been appointed to this committee — and will provide practical and general policy advice concerning the implementation of VAWA.

IWF’s commonsense views now have a voice in the implementation of VAWA. Pfotenhauer notes, “It is our duty to make sure that resources are being allocated in the most effective manner and to review the lessons learned in the field.

“Reasonable people may disagree on the best ways in which to fight this battle, but we must work together to determine what approach has the greatest impact on this problem,” adds Pfotenhauer. “This is a unique opportunity to work with the Administration in changing the attitudes and perceptions surrounding domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.”
