When Iranian police announced a massive bust for “unlawful actions” it wasn’t related to money laundering or drug trafficking. The sixty-eight young Iranians being detained by police are being charged with — dating!

According to Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency and confirmed by the BBC, the government’s “morality police” usually raid mixed-gender parties but have recently been looking into the world of online dating to catch young crooks. One general was indignant: “Some people were using an internet site to allow girls and boys to talk and arrange meetings in a place in north Tehran.”

Interestingly, according to the BBC: “There are more than 1,200 Persian blogs, which focus largely on social rather than political issues, such as the opposite sex, music and films.”
