The Dixie Chicks have at least one fan who still stands by them, despite their unpatriotic outbursts of a few weeks ago. Former Vice President Al Gore is supporting the Chicks all the way.

According to the Nashville Tennessean, Gore used the recent Dixie Chicks anti-war uproar as an example of decreasing tolerance for diverse ideas. “They were made to feel un-American and risked economic retaliation because of what was said” proclaimed Gore. “Our democracy has taken a hit. Our best protection is free and open debate.”

In actuality, free and open debate is exactly what happened. Americans didn’t agree with the Dixie Chicks, and they expressed this disagreement through their music choices and their wallets. The system worked, and the people triumphed. It doesn’t get much better.
