The following is excerpted from IWF’s Agenda for Women 2003.

“Quality of life is the true measure of success. For a woman, many factors contribute to a woman’s quality of life, including achieving a balance between working and caring for her family.”

However, women often are met with arcane policies at work that impede their ability to manage a flexible career. While personal choices impact quality of life, there is much that organizations can do to encourage a family-friendly workplace.

Instead of insisting on more government directives, we should encourage employers to develop creative policies and approaches to help their workers — including telecommuting, comp time, ‘flex time,’ job sharing, and part-time employment. After all, a family-friendly workplace is one that encourages flexibility and equal opportunity.”
