What do NOW and the YWCA have in common? Maybe not much, you’d think at first blush. But now, in a somewhat surprising appointment, they’re sharing leadership!

Patricia Ireland, the former president of the National Organization for Women, was recently named the Chief Executive of the Young Women’s Christian Association. According to the Associated Press, Ireland “who brings to the table almost a decade of NOW leadership” says she plans to “bring new energy into the [YWCA], increasing its national prominence and political activism.”

We can only hope that Ireland doesn’t infuse her own radical politics into the venerable YWCA. This is one appointment to keep your eyes on.
