A San Francisco area attorney has launched a legal battle against America’s favorite sandwich cookie. Why would the British-born Stephen Joseph attack the humble Oreo? Well, it turns out that Oreos — gasp!– are filled with unhealthy fats! Reuters wire service served up this tasty tidbit, quoting Joseph as saying “I am probably full of hydrogenated fat because until two years ago I didn’t know about it. I resent the fact that I have been eating that stuff all my life.” Joseph wants Oreos banned in California until Kraft stops using hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, and he is suing Kraft under California civil code that holds manufacturers liable for common products if not known to be unsafe by the ordinary consumer.”

It strikes us as a little strange that any intelligent adult would claim not to understand the health hazards of eating Oreos and the like. Mr. Joseph, really. Let’s keep those baseless lawsuits out of the courts.
