From Family News in Focus, Dec. 15, 2003:

The Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), in a new study called “Death of the Liberal Arts,” has graded the Top 10 liberal arts colleges as ranked by U.S. News and World Report in three fields: English, history and political science.

The results were far from encouraging, according to IWF Vice President Dr. Rieva Holycross.

“The freshmen in these schools are most likely to never be exposed to the fundamentals of a liberal arts education and instead find a wide array of politically correct, trendy offerings which focus inordinately on race and gender,” Holycross said.

That is a major tragedy for students, Holycross added, because it doesn’t prepare them for life. She said institutions of higher learning need to reverse these trends.

“We feel it’s vitally important that colleges and universities again become a home to true intellectual diversity,” she said.
