As co-chairperson of the Committee to Save Howard Dean, I must admit we’re weighing our options. George Will’s column today didn’t exactly lift our mood here at HQ. While the news isn’t all bad–one poll has our guy slightly ahead of the well-coiffed Viet Nam vet in New Hampshire–Mr. Will’s interpretation of the events in Iowa has us in a deep funk. “The evidence from Iowa is sobering news for the White House,” Will wrote. “It is that the Democratic nominating electorate is serious about replacing George W. Bush’.Iowa severely damaged the angriest candidate, Dean, who led there almost until the moment it mattered.” The committee isn’t ready to disband yet, but we’re pretty glum.
