More evidence that I may have been too harsh in grading the president’s Iraq speech: An Inkwell reader, C.B., found the speech helpful.

Unlike me, C.B. did not think that the president got bogged down in unilluminating details:

“I found some of the details interesting and reassuring,” writes C.B. “I had no idea that they were really building a big Iraqi army and was happy to hear some of the good news.

“I hadn’t really grasped the importance of handing over to Iraq so that Iraqis are convinced that we don’t want to occupy. I also thought it was helpful to have him explain how that would affect their thoughts about the process. I’ll be interested to see if it affects the polls since I would hope that maybe some moderate types liked it.”
