Here’s the quotation, from Associated Press reporter Beth Fouhy’s story about what Hillary told a crowd of rich Dems at a fundraiser yesterday in San Francisco (thanks, Kathryn Jean Lopez of National Review Online for the link). The senator from New York promised, yes, promised, that if the Democrats win Congress in November, they’ll rescind President G.W. Bush tax cuts:
“‘Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you,’ Sen. Clinton said. ‘We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.'”
“Take things away” from us? Gee, maybe I should vote Democratic this fall. And I love that bit about “the common good.” I’d prefer to keep my money.
