As Dan Rather and CBS continue to dig themselves in deeper and deeper on the matter of the apparently forged memos that impugn George Bush’s tenure in the Texas Air National Guard, columnist Linda Chavez points out that there’s a real Hitler comparison to be considered:
“If Rather and CBS executives were smart, they’d study a similar forgery scandal involving a prominent news organization, Stern magazine’s ’Hitler Diaries’ hoax, to discover how to avoid blinding themselves to the truth,” she writes.
The outcome of the “Hitler Diaries” hoax was not pretty for Stern, which refused to consider that they’d been had until there was no other alternative.
