WASHINGTON, DC — The Independent Women’s Forum today applauds President Bush for naming former U.S. Senators Connie Mack and John Breaux to lead a bi-partisan panel on Tax Code Reform. The panel will make recommendations to the President and Treasury Secretary John Snow on simplifying the nations’ tax code.
“The existing tax system is needlessly complex,” said Carrie Lukas, director of policy of the Independent Women’s Forum. “We need comprehensive tax reform that simplifies the tax code and encourages savings.”
“The most commonly used tax form took an average of more than 13 hours to complete. We need a system that gives that time back to families. We look forward to hearing the recommendations of this panel and hope that Congress can work with the President to make our tax system less burdensome,” Lukas added.
Last August, the Independent Women’s Forum released “Taxing Independence: The Price of Feminists’ Love Affair with High Taxes,” a position paper that exposed how the feminist propensity to support high tax rates is contrary to women’s best interests.
