Here’s a snippet from ABC News’ report on Teddy Kennedy at the National Press Club: “[During the luncheon] Kennedy also mangled the name of the Democrats’ new star, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, calling him ‘Osama bin … Osama … Obama.'”

In a piece headlined “Media Bias? Just ask Barack Osama..er.. Osama Obama..er..Whatever!” Trevor Bothwell notes:

“What’s interesting — aside from the fact that we now have conclusive proof that President Bush isn’t the only one who occasionally bungles the English language — isn’t that Kennedy confused Obama’s name with terrorist enemy Number One, or even that ABC’s reference of it appeared in precisely the last sentence of the story.

“What is interesting — and, unfortunately, outright undeniable — is that had a Republican uttered the same about Obama, it would have led the story, and that Republican would in all likelihood right now be fighting to keep his job.”
