WASHINGTON, DC — The Independent Women’s Forum today called for the repeal of the Death Tax, the tax that is levied on the assets of a person after their death.

“The death tax is an inefficient tax that encourages tax shelters and punishes people for saving,” said Carrie Lukas, director of policy at the Independent Women’s Forum. “People have already paid taxes more than once on the assets that they have accumulated during their lives. It is unfair to tax them once more at the end of their life.”

Congress recognized that the death tax was unjust and temporarily repealed this unfair levy. The House of Representatives is scheduled today, April 13, to vote on permanently repealing the tax.

“Americans overwhelmingly recognize that the Death Tax is inconsistent with the American dream,” Lukas continued. “It is time for this unfair tax to expire.”
