WASHINGTON, DC — The Independent Women’s Forum stands in agreement with President Bush, who today urged special interest groups to “tone down the heated rhetoric” as he considers a successor to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

IWF legal consultant Jennifer C. Braceras stated, “This is the time to reflect upon the career of Justice O’Connor, not to engage in idle speculation about potential replacements.”

Braceras continued, “I hope that special interest groups will not politicize the resignation by immediately clamoring for a replacement of one stripe or another. Such behavior is totally inappropriate and demeans both Justice O’Connor and the judicial process.”

Justice O’Connor, who served on the Supreme Court for 24 years, announced her retirement last week. President Bush is scheduled to confer with a group of Republican and Democratic senators to discuss the vacancy at the White House on July 11.
