Does the evening news seem too touchy feely…too feminine? According to an article on “Lady Producers” in the New York Observer, the female evening-news audience across the three networks is 14.4 million, the male audience 10 million-and producers who can appeal to women are being hired.

“[M]ost programmers are intent on making things woman-friendly-and the networks tend to subscribe to the theory that the best programmers for women are their fellow women. And are women better at knowing how to reach female viewers?

“Yes, many said-although ‘I know many men who have incredibly evolved feminine sides who are great producers for women,” said Ms. Chermol.

“‘We breed metrosexuals in this industry,’ said Ms. Zirinsky.”
