It isn’t often that an Independent candidate has a legitimate chance of winning a high profile political position like US senator.  That’s the reality we’re faced with in Connecticut following a Lamont primary win and incumbent Joe Lieberman filing as an Independent.  The Republicans are doing a whole lot of nothing, so it’s shaping up to be a Lieberman-Lamont battle in November. 


Peggy Noonan lays out some potential campaign strategies for both candidates over at Opinion Journal.  Lamont, Noonan thinks, should expand from a mostly single-issue antiwar campaign to paint Lieberman as part of the government establishment.  People get frustrated with the government establishment every now and then and need a fresh face to shake things up, enter Ned Lamont.  Meanwhile, Lieberman should distance himself from the parties as much as possible.  Read the op-ed here.
