Oooh, the liberals are screaming like lobsters on their way to the thermidor sauce over ABC’s upcoming miniseries “The Path to 9/11,” to air Sunday and Monday nights, which suggests that the Clinton administration mostly goofed around duuring the late 1990s instead of doing something about the already threat-issuing Al Qaeda. Even the Great Oval Office Orator himself is aflame, as the New York Post reports in this story titled “Bubba Goes Ballistic”:
“A furious Bill Clinton is warning ABC that its mini-series ‘The Path to 9/11’ grossly misrepresents his pursuit of Osama bin Laden – and he is demanding the network “pull the drama” if changes aren’t made.
“Clinton pointedly refuted several fictionalized scenes that he claims insinuate he was too distracted by the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal to care about bin Laden and that a top adviser pulled the plug on CIA operatives who were just moments away from bagging the terror master, according to a letter to ABC boss Bob Iger obtained by The Post.
“The former president also disputed the portrayal of then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as having tipped off Pakistani officials that a strike was coming, giving bin Laden a chance to flee.”
And according the Washington Post’s media reporter Howard Kurtz (hat tip: Instapundit), Albright and Sandy “Don’t Mind My Thick Ankles” Berger are joining in:
“Top officials of the Clinton administration have launched a preemptive strike against an ABC-TV ‘docudrama,’ slated to air Sunday and Monday, that they say includes made-up scenes depicting them as undermining attempts to kill Osama bin Laden.
“Former secretary of state Madeleine K. Albright called one scene involving her ‘false and defamatory.’ Former national security adviser Samuel R. ‘Sandy’ Berger said the film ‘flagrantly misrepresents my personal actions.’ And former White House aide Bruce R. Lindsey, who now heads the William J. Clinton Foundation, said: ‘It is unconscionable to mislead the American public about one of the most horrendous tragedies our country has ever known.'”
On the web, they’re going even crazier. Here’s the lefty syndication site Alternet:
“You can write to ABC here, and demand they pull the film from their lineup next week. And be sure to check out this great website, Open Letter to ABC: Don’t Airbush 9/11, for comprehensive info and updates about the film. From who’s been writing to ABC in protest (Congressman John Conyers, Jr., Reps. John Dingell, Jane Harman, Louise Slaughter) to journalists (the Boston Globe’s Suzanne Ryan, Detroit News’ Mekeisha Madden Toby) who’ve been ‘duped’ by the movie, there’s lots here.”
And this from Democratic Underground (thanks, Michelle Malkin!):
“Our biggest opportunity will be to have nearly identical blog posts waiting, then submit them to be found internet wide the morning after the movie. Google and Technorati will pick up on these posts quickly. We can make these entries dominate the first several pages of the search engines.
MAKE SURE THE POST TITLE HAS THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE IN IT!
“Get every Democratic friendly blog on board as possible… you e-mail the ones you know, they’ll e-mail the ones they know, etc. Make SURE these blogs are on the Technorati network and have also been submitted to Google’s blog search.
“For one day, change the title of your blog to the title of the movie.
“Agree on a clear, detailed, and sourced body of information — I’ve seen several examples on DU lately disputing what is in the movie. Media Matters has one. One was posted today on DU by Richard Clarke.
“Everyone post it. Right after the movie is over or the next morning at the latest.
“MAKE SURE THE POST TITLE HAS THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE IN IT!
DU JOURNALS WILL ALSO WORK! They’re indexed in Technorati! To use DU journals for this, the admins will need to allow a forum for everyone who want to to post and almost identical post with facts concerning intelligence failures leading up to 9/11.
“MAKE SURE THE POST TITLE HAS THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE IN IT!”
The sad thing is that ABC is already capitulating to the pressure-cum-blackmail campaign. Here’s the latest report, from the Los Angeles Times (registration required):
“ABC toned down a scene that involved Clinton’s national security adviser, Samuel ‘Sandy’ Berger, declining to give the order to kill bin Laden, according to a person involved with the film who declined to be identified. ‘That sequence has been the focus of attention,’ the source said.”
I say: Be unconscionable and watch the series come Sunday and Monday, which will make Bubba and the DU jall the madder.
