The Other Charlotte has already eloquently remarked upon the death of Jeanne Kirkpatrick, who reportedly died in her sleep yesterday, quoting at length from Ambassador Kirkpatrick’s famous and still-electrifying “Blame America First” speech.
She was a great lady and an intellectual who had a real impact on the world, and so I am going to take the liberty of adding a few relevant links. Commentary has a selection of her writings on line. Norman Podhoretz eulogizes her as “a true American hero” in the Weekly Standard.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was the first woman to be U. S. Ambassador to the U.N. and she never absorbed the values of Turtle Bay. Outgoing Ambassador John Bolton recalled in an emotional tribute that she “never forgot who she was representing.”
The sad news of Ambassador Kirkpatrick’s death has just been announced. We will try to keep you abreast of the tributes as they pour in from those who appreciated this brilliant and fearless woman.
