John Gizzi has a good piece on the Gonzales debate over at Human Events today. Gizzi reports that many Republican lawmakers view the current “scandal” as a convenient reason to call for him to resign.
Gizzi touches on an interesting point: conservatives were no fan of Gonzales to begin with, so why would we expect them to stand up for him now even if the attacks against him have been blown out of proportion? In short, many within the Republican Party don’t view Gonzales as worth fighting for, and that will ultimately bring him down, not the non-scandal itself.
