UC Berkeley and Stanford maintain higher standards on the subject, as do Harvard, Wellesley, Smith and UCLA. Among other campuses that rate low in teaching the Bard are Amherst, Cornell, Northwestern, Dartmouth, Oberlin, Purdue, Vassar and Bryn Mawr.


In a report on the subject ACTA (the American Council of Trustees and Alumni) concludes: “A degree in English without Shakespeare is like an M.D. without a course in anatomy. … It is tantamount to fraud.”
