Reader J.M. comments:

“Don’t forget one of the other, sometimes-heard arguments against the hyphenation hype.  When you take your husband’s name, that means you are being subjugated by one man.  But when you hyphenate, you are subjugating yourself to TWO men – your husband and your father.  Thus, by the second or third generation, a young woman could find herself under the nomenclature thumb of a growing and literal patriarchy.

“Plus, what’s amusing about that argument is that some of the far-radical feminists actually agree!”

It boggles the mind.
