I also recommend checking out Jacob Sullum’s commentary over at Reason‘s Hit and Run blog. Sullum focuses on a particularly contentious part of D.C.’s gun ban: that all firearms must be kept “unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock or similar device.”  As you can imagine, that makes self-defense more than a little difficult.
