Apparently Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is not the only person currently in the running to head up the EPA under the Obama administration.  Also on the short list is Lisa Jackson, former head of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.  Ms. Jackson recently left that position to become Gov. Jon Corzine’s Chief of Staff and is also serving as co-chair on President-elect Obama’s transition group in charge of the EPA.  While heading up the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New Jersey passed some of the most rigorous emissions standards in the country, requiring the state to cut its greenhouse gas emissions 20% by 2020 and a whopping 80% by 2050.  These requirements so concern some Assembly Members that they are calling for a repeal of the legislation for fear, and rightly so, that it will further devastate a state economy already struggling.

Hopefully, if selected to head up the EPA, Ms. Jackson will think twice before allowing President Obama to circumvent the legislature and mandate an oppressive cap-and-trade system which will likely cripple the United States economy.
