Municipalities across England are hiring a group called Heatseekers, which dispatches vans into the streets at night to take thermal images of private homes to determine how energy efficient the homes are. After the image is taken, homeowners receive a copy of the photograph in the mail with tips on how to better insulate their house. Not surprisingly, Heatseekers is owned by an insulation company and I suspect it is only a matter of time before the photograph comes with a threat of fines if the home is not upgraded to the specifications the city councils deem fit.
