Kudos to the Washington Post for supporting merit pay for teachers in this editorial today.  Simply put, incentives matter.  So why do we continue to ignore performance incentives in the pay structure for our teachers?  WaPost is correct to ask:



Teachers are the single most important factor affecting student achievement, so why would you not want to compensate your best performers, provide incentives for others to improve and get rid of those who don’t produce?
