Today, the Democrat-controlled Congress is set to introduce the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), more commonly known as card check. This bill fundamentally changes how workplaces are unionized. Despite the positive-sounding name, the bill would not afford workers any new rights. Instead, it would take away a fundamental right: the right to a secret ballot election as to whether or not to join a union. The right to a secret ballot election is fundamental to American democracy.

With a new study showing that 600,000 jobs could be lost by passing card check, and a new poll indicating that 74% of rank and file union workers oppose card check, one should wonder why President Obama and Congressional Democrats think this legislation will be good for the economy.
