IWF congratulates the recipients of the 2009 Department of State Women of Courage Award.  The eight honorees have worked diligently to raise awareness on various issues like violence against women, forced marriages, religious tolerance, and slavery.

This year’s honorees were from Afghanistan, Malaysia, Yemen, Guatemala, Iraq, Niger, Uzbekistan, and Russia.  Wazhma Frogh, a panelist on IWF’s Securing Afghanistan: The Role of Women event was among one of this year’s recipients.  Congratulations to Wazhma and all the women who carry the voices of the voiceless and who risk their lives by doing so.
