One of the great falacies of the education policy debate is that while vouchers and the larger concept of “school choice” is very contensious, everyone agrees with and supports charter schools. In fact, much of the Democrat party (and particularly their union supporters) don’t really support true charter schools — they support the name charter schools, but then seek to impose the kind of government rules and regulations that have destroyed so many traditional public schools.
Jay Greene, who is one of the very best writers on education issues, had a great piece in the WSJ yesterday on the new assault on charter schools by the unions. For anyone who cares about real education reform, this piece is a must read.
