Much of the press has tried to ignore the ACORN scandal, but now that John Stewart has pointed out just how appalling it is that this “community organizing” group was willing to wink at not just prostitution, but child sex slavery (you take check out the Stewart video on the yeahrightblog.com), it’s going to be tough for the mainstream media to avoid.
ACORN has apparently realized that they can’t just shake off this scandal and is calling for an “independent investigation.” It’s nice if ACORN takes responsibility and vows to review its practices, but why do they continue to say the tapes are “doctored.” If they actually want to argue that somehow the tapes are fabricated, or even cut as to be misleading, then why are they firing people and shutting down aspects of their activities?
