Today, on the West Front of the Capitol, thousands gathered to rally against the Democrats’ health care reform legislation, nicknamed “Pelosi Care.” Those gathered held signs, cheered and chanted “Kill the Bill” throughout the course of the rally. Members of Congress spoke out on the steps of the capitol. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes:
Rep. Michelle Bachmann:
“Quite simply the Republicans don’t have enough votes to kill this bill. We knew we were limited. But what we knew was unlimited were the voices of persuasion of the American people.”
Rep. Mike Pence:
“As a physician, I’ve read the majority of this bill and I’ve got a diagnosis: It’s legislative malpractice.”
Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner:
“This bill is the greatest threat to freedom I’ve seen in the 19 years since I’ve been in Washington. Join us in defeating ‘Pelosi-Care!'”
Rep. Roy Blunt:
“In the avalanche of misleading statements, the biggest misleading statement made is we have to do what (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi wants to do or we don’t do anything. Republicans have better ideas.”
The health care bill may go to vote on Saturday. Let’s hope today’s rally sends a message to all Americans and members of Congress to keep their hands off our health care.
