The Daily Mail is reporting that a BBC reporter was sent the now famous leaked emails from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia a month before the story broke…and he did nothing with them (hat tip, The Corner).  This to me is an extremely unsettling revelation.

The press must remain an investigative body–considering all the facts and reporting them in a neutral fashion.  The very idea that a major news organization would sit on a major story like the CRU emails is astounding.

What other issue will they push?  What other economy-crippling policy will they advocate?  What evidence to the contrary will they bury, ignore, refute?

But there is one hope for the future of news and reporting–blogs, and other Internet sites such as Stephen McIntyre’s excellent website Climate Audit

Let’s hope the health care debate receives equal journalistic review.
