Everybody’s watching Massachusetts today, and there will be reams written about what it all means for the two parties and the country’s future.

Here’s one thought that I haven’t read yet: Democrats have been trying to tar Republicans as obstructionist, nefariously trying to kill health care legislation that the people really want (in spite of polls showing that an overwhelming majority of Americans reject the Democrat’s health care proposals).

In Massachusetts, Republicans are a small minority (half of voters are Independents, and about another third are Democrats). You can’t blame Republicans for whatever happens in the Massachusetts election. Voters supporting Scott Brown today will be explicitly rejecting this health care reform. If he wins that will show that it’s not just Republicans-but Independents and even many Democrats who oppose the current bill.
