New Jersey students trapped in failing schools are on the verge of escaping thanks to the Opportunity Scholarship Act, which passed out of a Senate committee last week with unanimous support. The New Jersey Teachers Association is in a tizzy because the usual union shenanigans and scare tactics couldn’t convince Senators that keeping children in failing schools until the establishment gets its act together is a good idea. Hundreds of parents agreed. But that’s not what’s important to some Garden State reporters. In a press conference with Gov. Chris Christie, a Star Ledger reporter wondered whether his “confrontational tone” would impede the bill’s passage. Is this reporter really a native of the state that inspired the Sopranos, or a transplant from the touchy-feely land of LA? Either way, the Governor’s response is priceless…even if he refuses to use his “nice” voice.
