My colleague Carrie Lukas has already weighed in on a positive development in public education-an award celebrating a good teacher that will go to Jeremiah Young of Beaufort, S.C. The award is being given by the American Board for the Certification of Teacher Excellence. Because I still remember fondly and value highly the great teachers I had, I just want to second everything Carrie said.
The ABCTE is a nonprofit alternative certification program for those who want to go into teaching, and as there is a shortage of good teachers in public schools, we hope they attract lots of good recruits.
