The President used an analogy about salmon to illustrate the complicated federal food safety rules.  He said if the salmon are in fresh water they are overseen by one agency: salt water, another agency.  He then joked that it gets really complicated when the fish is smoked.  It’s a nice analogy that Obama doesn’t really seem to understand.

The just passed food safety bill doesn’t reduce the ludicrous inspection system that Obama is referring to.  Rather, the bill’s 250 pages included a slew of new regulations and grew the government by giving it new powers that will lead to unnecessary and costly food recalls.

But most importantly, the bill did nothing to improve the coordination among agencies like the FDA and USDA.
