I adore Charlotte’s post about Vogue’s idiotic write-up on the Syrian First Lady.  It reminded me of another item I ran across (though not widely reported) in the news.  American pop stars have been entertaining the family of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi at a series of private concerts and intimate parties.

And the Gaddafi family isn’t just hiring a bunch of long-forgotten, drug addled, second-rate, former child stars in desperate need of a paid gig.  No, no, no…these are A-list members of Hollywood glitterati.  You might recognize the names: Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Usher.

What exactly is wrong with these American pop stars?  Are they so desperate to add to their already swollen and questionably earned fortunes that they’ll entertain America’s enemies–in a time of war?  Do they even for one moment consider where the money is coming from?  Do any of these dimwits have publicists to advise them that entertaining terrorists and murders is probably not a good idea?  Does the name Gaddafi just escape them?

Have any of them heard of a little Scottish town called Lockerbie?

The American press should be all over this.  Beyonce, Usher, and Mariah Carey should all be making public apologies and any money earned from these appearances should be donated to human rights groups.  Oprah, Barbara, Dianne Sawyer, Katie Couric should all be lining up to hear their mea culpas…

But unfortunately, this story has received scant attention.  Instead, the media seems more interested in Usher’s relationship with Justin Bieber, Mariah’s pregnancy and to what degree Gwyneth “$300 bucks for kiddie rain boots are a steal!” Paltrow leaned on her pal Beyonce for help in preparing for her stiff performance at the Grammys.

I, for one, won’t be supporting any of these stars with my money.  They seem to already be well financed by America’s enemies.  Of course, maybe I should give these pop stars a break. Perhaps they’re getting all their foreign policy information from Vogue…and we know how Vogue feels about dictators–it’s okay to be a dictator as long as you’re dressed right!
