Dr. Milton Wolf, a cousin of President Obama and a board-certified diagnostic radiologist, has a great piece today in the Washington Times.  In this piece, Wolf illustrates (with several embarrassing examples) how big government proponents seek to garner goodies and kickbacks for themselves and their friends, while leaving the tab with regular Americans.  Moreover, they do it under the pretense of more “fairness” or more government involvement for the sake of some public “good.”  This is laughable, because behind-the-scenes crony deal-cutting is the furthest thing from fair, and the only “good” from schemes like this goes to benefit the deal makers.

An obvious present-day example of this is the Department of Health and Human Services “waiver” from ObamaCare.  The most recent, and perhaps most embarrassing news in this story is that Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) has applied for a waiver.  Besides pointing out that Weiner was the “Loudest ObamaCare Cheerleader,” Dr. Wolf writes:

Now Mr. Weiner wants in on the action. Why? He thinks escaping Obamacare would mean that New York City “can save money and have more control over its own destiny.” Regular Americans need not apply.

Such is the standard operating procedure for big-government types: Impose ever-increasing burdens on hardworking Americans who play by the rules and don’t have best friends in Washington or armies of lobbyists at their disposal or millions of dollars for campaign contributions. This sickening display shows that, at best, this administration is admitting that Obamacare is unraveling, in part, because its one-size-fits-all, big-government plan simply cannot accommodate all the unique needs of 310 million patients. At worst, its pay-for-play, politics-as-usual scheme is enriching administration cronies on the backs of everyone else. As Mr. Weiner said, “A lot of people who got waivers were … people who are our friends.”

The question remains: If Obamacare is such a great law, why does the White House keep exempting its best friends from it?

If we hope to have, as John Adams said, a government of laws and not of men, every American must be afforded equal protection under the law. Every power we have ever granted to the government has always been at the expense of personal liberty, but when we grant government the unholy power to choose arbitrarily who among us will be winners and who will be losers, we grant it the power to make losers of us all.

Rep. Weiner was indeed the loudest ObamaCare cheerleader, or at least he wanted to take credit for the law.  He’s the one who said, “I wrote the bill… the bill and I are one.”  He and the bill are one?  What?  If that’s the case he should’ve paid more attention to what he was writing.  If the law is so terrible that you want to be waived from it, you made a mistake.

And the worst part is this: Americans who had no say in the writing, the passing, or the implementing of this law will be subjected to its every onerous provision, and we don’t have the insider track to being “waived.”  Big government always creates winners and losers.  The only way we can all get a waiver is to repeal ObamaCare.
