From our friends at Bankrupting America:

I wonder how many people in the UK are frustrated with the idea of a cash-strapped government helping foot the bill of what at the end of the day is a lavish party.

Here in the U.S., the Obama’s have come under some criticism for a very expensive personal vacation schedule and entertainment budget.  I think people are rightfully frustrated with this kind of wasteful spending, which sets a tone that policymakers don’t get just what runaway debt and spending mean to American families and the economy, and may talk austerity, but aren’t willing to give up the perks they’ve enjoyed at taxpayer expense.  But voters also need to remember that all this discretionary matters are small ball and that the only way to meaningful change the trajectory of our spending and debt is by reforming Social Security and Medicare.
