I visited the National Organization for Women's website to see what they had to say about the capture of one of the most evil men in recent history-you know that mass murderer bin Laden who used terrorism to advance a fanatical religious agenda that would largely enslave women? And there was nothing, no statement, no words of congratulations or thanks to the men and women in our military and intelligence world who risk so much to make the world safer, not even a cheer for President Obama.
Instead, there was a long blog complaining fascination (including her own) with the royal wedding, lamentations about the potential for less federal funding for abortion providers, and a typically absurd statement about the cause of the debt. Yes, in contrast to what every Congressional Budget Office and Presidential Commission finds, NOW insists that America's entitlement programs, including Social Security and Medicare, have nothing to our debt. Those Bush era wars and tax cuts for the rich are to blame.
Women's studies often explore the notion that feminists see the world through a different lens than the rest of the world. They must-but that lens seems to leave out the big picture.
