Hey, I guess it’s perfectly fine to eat a 1,700 calorie lunch…just as long as it’s ordered at a trendy new hot spot in D.C. (and not at some ubiquitous fast food restaurant).

The Washington Post reports that Michelle “do as I say, not as I do” Obama ordered a whopping 1,700 calorie lunch at the Shake Shack–a New York City burger joint that just opened an outpost in D.C.  It’s been featured on the Food Network and is considered the hipster place to grab a burger.

A Washington Post journalist on the scene confirmed the first lady, who’s made a cause out of child nutrition, ordered a ShackBurger, fries, chocolate shake and a Diet Coke while the street and sidewalk in front of the usually-packed Shake Shack were closed by security during her visit.

According to nutritional information on Shake Shack’s Web site, the meal amounted to 1,700 calories.

Of course, the Post reporter was quick to come to her defense saying:

But it was impossible to tell whether the first lady intended to eat the entire order, or share with friends (the latter seems a tad more likely considering the two drinks).  The first lady’s office did not comment on the subject.

Umm, well thank you, Ms. fact-finding Post reporter.  Despite the fact that the First Lady’s office didn’t comment on this latest calorie explosion, it was kind of the Post reporter to throw out her theory on how Ms. Obama didn’t actually eat that much food.  And two drinks?  Since when did a shake become a thirst-quenching beverage. That’s called dessert to most people!

But hey, I’ll give the First Lady a break. I’m sure she knows she’ll have to cut back tomorrow and maybe throw in another mile on the treadmill.

If only the First Lady realized most of us also understand that we have to do the same balancing act with our own diets.
