I have just one additional thought to add to Carrie and Charlotte’s posts on the debt ceiling debate.  As Carrie mentioned below, the press is having a field day distorting the Republicans’ two part plan arguing that a short-term debt limit increase and spending cuts would only put us “right back where we are today.”


But has this country really ever moved on from “where we are today”?


Let’s not forget that Congress has increased the debt limit 74 times since 1962.  Ten of the increases have occurred since 2001–the most recent in February 2010.   


Looks like we’ve been dealing with that “right back here” situation for a while now.
