The United States’ primary “safety-net” programs are increasingly failing those they are supposed
to serve. Social Security provides income support for America’s seniors, but is financially unsound
and unfairly favors some Americans over others. IWF analysts explore how Social Security can be
changed to restore fiscal health and make it a better, fairer system for all Americans. Similarly, IWF
examines how our welfare programs can be changed so that they help those in need return to self-
sufficiency rather than encourage a counter-productive cycle of dependency.
